In the landscape of Italian architecture, the “Le Navi” complex in Cattolica represents a historical landmark of extraordinary value. Inaugurated on June 28, 1934, as the “XXVIII Ottobre” Marine Colony, the work was designed by Roman engineer Clemente Busiri Vici following the guidelines of the Futurist and Rationalist movements of the era. Conceived with strict symmetry, the central core of the complex consists of five buildings directly inspired by naval and aerial morphology – ships, airplanes, seaplanes, and submarines – giving the entire ensemble the appearance of an impressive naval fleet lined up between land and sea.

In 2000, a meticulous conservative restoration brought new life to the structure, transforming it into the Cattolica Aquarium, one of Italy’s most important marine parks, without altering the soul of the original design.
