Oskura: when to choose a pergola with retractable, adjustable or dual-movement louvers

Choosing a bioclimatic pergola means, first of all, understanding how you want to experience your outdoor space.

The real challenge is not covering a surface, but governing the elements: the crucial choice lies in the type of movement – adjustable, retractable, or a combination of both. It is this dynamic flexibility that determines the nature of the project, climatic comfort and – in certain cases – access to tax incentives.

Two technologies, two philosophies of use

Oskura Orienta – with adjustable louvers is the choice for those who want continuous control of light without sacrificing coverage. The louvers rotate from 0° to 115°: from the watertight closed position, to the angle for maximum ventilation, up to the tilt that cuts out the sun without completely shading. It is the ideal solution for south-facing terraces, where managing summer heat is the priority.

Oskura 2.0-XL – with retractable louvers is the opposite choice: when the roof opens, it disappears. The louvers gather into a bundle (663 mm for the 2.0 version, 1,273 mm for the XL) and the structure becomes an open pergola. The view towards the sky is total. It is the solution for those who do not want to give up the perception of the outdoors even with the pergola installed.

Oskura Unica – with independent dual movement is the compromise that solves the problem. The two movements – adjusting and retracting – can be operated separately thanks to a patented system that exploits mechanics and electronics. It is possible to orient the louvers without retracting them, retract them without having oriented them first, or manage the two movements in an automatic sequence via, for example, climate sensors.

Total retraction and architectural freedom

The space occupied by the retracted louvers is a design factor, not just a technical one.

Over a depth of 6 meters, Oskura 2.0 occupies 663 mm when closed – less than 11% of the covered opening. Oskura Unica, with its dual mechanism, reaches 1,523 mm: still compact, but to be considered during the design phase when side space is limited.

The gutter of Unica is also higher than other models (150×286 mm compared to 150×250 mm): a direct consequence of housing the patented dual mechanism, and a detail that tells the story of the engineering better than any description.

Water tightness and wind resistance: certified numbers

The entire Oskura range shares the same structural certifications, which apply to all three models:

  • Wind resistance: UNI EN 13659 Class 6 – Grade 10 Beaufort Scale, which corresponds to winds from 89 to 102 km/h (“storm” category). The load-bearing structure is made of primary extruded aluminum alloy EN 6060 and EN 6063, certified EN 1090-1:2009.
  • Water tightness: UNI EN 12208:2000, with drainage systems integrated into the gutter that manage rainwater without stagnation.
  • CE marking on the entire range.

These data also answer the question about the Ecobonus (tax deductions): Oskura systems guarantee a solar factor Gtot ≤ 0.35, a technical requirement to access the 50% deduction as certified solar shading.

Light regulation without heavy motorization

The insulated louvers, with a pitch of 199 mm and a thickness of 38 mm (18 mm for the 2.0 version), are designed to move silently even under wind load.

Operation is always motorized, but the system architecture is designed to minimize mechanical stress: no oversized motorization, no noise to disturb a dinner or a moment of relaxation.

The orientation from 0° to 115° covers all real-use scenarios: from hermetic closure in case of rain, to total opening on colder days to maximize passive solar gain.

Integration with home automation and climate sensors

All Oskura models are ready for integration with climate sensors (wind, rain, sun, temperature) and LED lighting systems.

Automation is not a marketing option: in a Class 6 certified system, the anemometric sensor that closes the louvers before the wind reaches critical thresholds is a structural safety component, not just a matter of comfort.

At Sunroom, we do everything internally, in our factory in Cattolica (RN). We follow every detail: design, prototyping, aluminum processing, and certifications. Half a century of innovation and patents translates into concrete facts: that is why the Beaufort Class 6 is a standard feature for our pergolas and not an option.

On this foundation of absolute safety, our designers and our network of specialized partners give shape to your ideas. Because your home (or your business) looks like no other, and your pergola must be a tailor-made suit for you. A perfect blend of light, comfort, and Italian design, built to last over time.
